Vehicle Technician

  • Hourly Rate: £17.01 – £19.27
  • Location: Halifax
  • Job Type: Full-time

We are seeking an experienced Vehicle Technician to deliver high-quality planned maintenance and responsive repairs across a diverse fleet, including HGVs, light commercial vehicles, cars, accessible buses, plant, and equipment. This role requires strong diagnostic skills, the ability to respond to breakdowns and emergencies, and a commitment to delivering a safe and customer-focused service.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
  • Provide prompt response to breakdowns and attend roadside incidents when required.
  • Perform MOT testing for Class IV, V, and VII vehicles and taxi compliance testing.
  • Diagnose faults and complete repairs efficiently in line with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Undertake inspections both within the depot and at external sites.
  • Maintain accurate service, inspection, and repair records.
  • Take enforcement action where vehicles fail compliance standards.
  • Support operational priorities, adapting to urgent and changing workloads.
  • Ensure high standards of health and safety at all times.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Nominated MOT Tester covering Class IV, V, and VII vehicles.
  • City & Guilds Motor Vehicle Technician qualification or NVQ Level 2 equivalent.
  • Proven experience servicing and repairing HGVs, light commercial vehicles, cars, and plant equipment.
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload under pressure.
  • Full UK driving licence (Category B, minimum 2 years).

Desirable Skills:

  • LGV licences (C1/D1) or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience in taxi compliance / Hackney carriage testing.
  • Knowledge of electric and hybrid vehicle systems.

Working Conditions:

  • Based at a designated workshop, with travel to other locations as required.
  • May include evening and weekend working.
  • Regular outdoor work, including attending breakdowns in all weather conditions.
  • Physical role requiring manual handling and site-based work.
