Design Engineer

Astute's Nuclear Team is partnering with a leading civil engineering and construction organisation to recruit a Design Engineer for major infrastructure projects across the UK, based at their offices in Swindon.\n\nThe Design Engineer role comes with a competitive salary of £45,000- £55,000, plus car allowance and benefits package.\n\nIf you're a Design Engineer and are looking to work for an organisation that values integrity, innovation, and technical excellence, then submit your CV to apply today.\n\nResponsibilities and duties of the Design Engineer role\n\nReporting to the Design Manager you will:\n\nManage design consultant activities to ensure compliance with project programmes and client requirements.\nAct as the technical lead for permanent works design packages where required.\nManage the Technical Queries process, ensuring actions are assigned, tracked, and closed out effectively.\nCoordinate design workshops, meetings, and interface activities whilst maintaining accurate records and action trackers.\nSupport the delivery of design programmes, ensuring all design deliverables are produced on time and to the required quality standards.\nReview design submissions, drawings, and technical documentation to ensure compliance with project specifications and client requirements.\nManage and maintain design deliverable schedules and design progress reporting.\nCoordinate requests for information between internal and external stakeholders.\nAttend and facilitate design interface meetings with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and project teams.\nSupport document control processes and ensure drawings are distributed effectively across project teams.\nManage BIM requirements for permanent and temporary works alongside BIM/CAD resources.\nSupport temporary works design processes and ensure compliance with relevant procedures.\nCollaborate with external suppliers, subcontractors, consultants, and engineering teams throughout project delivery. \n\nProfessional qualifications \n\nWe are looking for someone with the following:\n\nDegree qualified or equivalent in an engineering related subject.\nPrevious experience in a Design Engineer, Design Coordinator, or Design Management role within construction or infrastructure projects.\nStrong understanding of construction methodologies and engineering design processes.\nExperience managing design deliverables, technical queries, and consultant coordination.\nKnowledge of CDM regulations and Principal Designer responsibilities.\nStrong technical review capabilities with the ability to challenge and improve design solutions.\nExperience within heavy civil engineering, infrastructure, or tunnelling projects would be advantageous. \n\nPersonal skills \n\nThe Design Engineer role would suit someone who is:\n\nAn excellent communicator capable of building relationships across multidisciplinary teams.\nOrganised and detail-oriented with strong coordination skills.\nProactive in identifying and resolving technical and design-related challenges\nAccountable and committed to delivering high-quality outcomes.\nA collaborative team player who enjoys working with clients, consultants, and project stakeholders.\nInnovative and focused on continuous improvement.
